Marketing Focus: Plan Your Quarter (and Give Yourself Something to Celebrate)
It’s the beginning of a new quarter, which means I’m planning the next three months.
One of the biggest shifts I made in my business was moving from monthly marketing to quarterly promotion planning. It gives me a bigger runway, helps me build momentum, and keeps me from constantly scrambling for “what do I post today?”
Right now, I’m mapping out my Q2 promotions around a new release.
I wrote a mafia werewolves series. Because I love paranormal romance.
And I’ve been reading a lot of dark mafia romance. So naturally, my brain said: Why not both?
Plan Around What You’re Selling
Since I have a new series launching this quarter, my promo calendar is built around:
Teasing the world
Introducing the characters
Leaning into the tropes
Building anticipation
And preparing readers to buy
Now, if you don’t have a new book coming out this quarter, don’t worry. This is where your Author Celebration Calendar comes in. Set aside an hour and map out:
Your publishiversary
Each book’s release anniversary
Series milestones
And 6–12 quirky holidays that connect to your stories
Think:
National Kissing Day for your romance
National Pet Day if you’ve got a beloved animal sidekick
National Coffee Day for your small-town café romance
Full Moon dates for my paranormal folks
There are entire websites dedicated to these “celebration days,” and once you start looking, you’ll find so many ways to tie your books into them.
You don’t always need a new release to market your books. You need a reason to talk about them. Celebrations give you that reason. They make your content feel timely, fun, and relevant—without forcing you to create something brand new.
So tell me—
What are you promoting this quarter?
I’m getting close to launching my next non fiction Kickstarter which will take writers through the whole process of a book from planning a marketable idea, writing all three acts, and launching the book. There will even be a 12 week cohort where we will all do this together —yup that includes me planning, writing, and launching a new book alongside you!
Make sure you’re following the campaign!
