I’ve been giving a lot of writing advice this month. But I realized that I haven't mentioned the piece of advice I use every single day. That advice is Daily Affirmations.
Affirmations are positive statements that can help you to challenge and overcome self-sabotaging and negative thoughts. When you repeat them often and believe in them, you can start to see positive changes. This is particularly powerful in writing, where mental state deeply influences creativity and productivity.
Every day (including weekends), I write the affirmations in the graphic above. I recently hired a life coach from Heather Hildenbrand’s HEA coaching service, and we changed my affirmations into Lofty Questions.
Tacking on WHY to your affirmation is a way to turn it into a lofty question. So instead of “I am a multi-six figure author,” I now write “Why am I a multi-six figure author.” With this slight rephrase, my subconscious (and my conscious mind, too) kicks into gear to answer this question and figure out the process. It’s another way to frame your goal as a reality already happening, rather than a wish because it makes your brain seek solutions.
As writers, we face an internal battle with doubt, fear, and procrastination. However, the right words can transform our mindset, inspire action, and unlock our creative potential. Today, I’m sharing actual pages from my daily affirmations journal to give you some inspiration on how you can foster positive thoughts and actions to guide you towards a more productive and successful writing career. The dating ones aren’t working out so well, but I’m told I need to actually go outside or something to make that happen????
The Power of Positive Affirmations
Don't just state wishful thinking. Instead craft purposeful statements that realign your mindset and clarify your goals. Here are some affirmations tailored specifically for writers like us, aimed at enhancing writing habits, boosting sales, and increasing royalty earnings:
1. To Foster Daily Writing:
"I am a disciplined writer who crafts unputdownable stories." (Yes, unputdownable is a word!)
“Why am I a disciplined writer who crafts unputdownable stories.”
"Every day, I sit down at my desk and create with joy and enthusiasm."
"I trust in my writing schedule, and it pays off in my productivity."
2. To Develop Consistency:
"I am committed to my writing goals and consistently make progress."
“Why am I committed to my writing goals. Why do I consistently make progress.”
"With each writing session, my skills improve and my stories deepen."
"Consistency is a key part of my writing journey, and I embrace it fully."
3. To Increase Book Sales:
"My stories resonate with readers and attract new audiences every day."
“Why do my stories resonate with readers and attract new audiences every day.”
"I am grateful for each person who purchases, reads, and recommends my books."
"My book sales grow exponentially as I engage effectively with my readers."
4. To Boost Royalties:
"With every book I sell, I am more financially secure."
"I am a successful author making a substantial income from my royalties."
“Why am I a successful author making a substantial income from my royalties.”
"My earnings reflect my hard work and passion for writing."
Implementing Affirmations into Your Daily Routine
By incorporating these affirmations into your daily routine, I promise you that you'll see the best effects. Here are a few tips on how to make affirmations part of your writing life:
Morning Motivation: Start your day by repeating your affirmations aloud, making them a grounding start to your writing sessions. Personally, I prefer to write my affirmations rather than say them out loud. But your practice is entirely up to you.
Visual Reminders: Place sticky notes with your affirmations around your writing space, on your desk, or as bookmarks. I have some on my keyboard so I see them while I'm typing.
Reflective Writing: Dedicate a few minutes each day to write down your affirmations in a journal. Reflect on any changes you notice in your mindset or writing habits. I am a Journal Princess, so feel free to ask me for recommendations!
The goal of these affirmations is to inspire you. But it's also meant to create a mindset that naturally fosters action and results. By affirming your abilities and outcomes, you pave the way for real, tangible success in your writing career.
A great step towards making your writing dreams come true is to join me in my Kickstarter. In the Page Turner Pacing book, workbook and course, I’m all about building a consistent habit -even if that habit is you only write on the weekends, write every day, or binge-write a book in a month and then take the rest of the year off. It’s all a pattern!
I love this rephrasing technique. I journal daily and work through deep questions but turning them into affirmations is awesome! Thank you for sharing.
This was phenomenal. Thank you so much for sharing. Affirmations are something I’ve been digging into lately and I hadn’t considered wording them the way you are and that opens up completely new thought processes for me.
