Thank you for posting this. It was right on time. I love that you always break down different approaches, as I usually only opt for two: External force or Misunderstanding. My next contemp has a Revelation of a Secret, and I felt SO uncomfortable writing toward it. But after reading this, I realize that what I'm really dealing with is a secret revelation AND betrayal, so it's key to have the male MC make up for that betrayal in a way that resonates.
As someone who writes darkish, I find it key to go light before the Big Daddy Dark Moment to give readers relief--and a hint of what could come after the couple makes it through the dark moment.
